Anyone can pop some motrin or tylenol into their kid at the slightest sign of a fever but we believe in a more holistic way of dealing with signs of illness.
We look at the whole picture and turn to natural remedies before even considering traditional over the counter medicines. Herbs, homeopathy, essential oils, nutrition, immune support, emotional support (ie bach flower essences) are all a part of our illness routines.
Here you'll find some information on why we choose these alternative modalities and the ways in which we use them successfully.
With that said, we DO resort to the tylenol and motrin when necessary - it's just that we don't feel it's necessary at the first sign of fever. AND we have a child that runs very high fevers. We were in the ER once in 2003. When the thermometer rose above 107, I was in a panic and a neighbor drove us to the ER. They told us our thermometer was broken (it's not, 2 years later we're still using the same one). Our MD told us his immune system goes into hyperdrive due to this food allergies. Almost as if, his immune system has ADD, not focusing on what it needs to and then has to overdo it. Anyhow, that story is for the Eating section.
It's also becoming increasingly difficult to find doctors who will not jump to prescribe medications and antibiotics. As such I created a file with all the resources I've found that might help one find a more holistic or less traditional doctor.
