I live in NJ and the children here get one day a week in gym class. If the gym teacher is absent they may get none. ALSO, the children are punished with this taken away for forgetting homework and such.
It is outragous the way this country is going. I have had enough!

KIds need free time to get out of the class room and relieve some energy!

I have to admit we do the candy thing. But we stick to mostly chocolate, gum, jelly bellys and some malted balls (my favorite!)

But we also do put some gifts in the basket. I usually get them activity toys; real yoyos or slinkies, kites, chalk, bubbles, etc.

Honestly, what the kids love the most are the egg hunt and following the clues to the basket. I forget how excited they get.

Hope the eggs are as fun for you as they were for us!

This is the first year that my son even noticed Easter. I didn't want to do a big candy basket and didn't want to flood him with more cheap toys. I thought that we could hide out from the commercialized holiday. And then, my neighbors came over smacking gum, showing off toys and bragging about all the Easter bunny left them. It didn't dawn on me to make hard boiled eggs and dye them. So, here it is Easter Monday and we are going to dye eggs with the stuff we have in the kitchen cupboard. Thanks for the ideas!

Sometimes I wonder about the belief that it is so much more to "eat organic" -- maybe it's where I live, but I find that I don't spend as much necessarily as other mom's I know who don't eat organic.

But I make all our food pretty much, I don't buy even the organic foods that are packaged ready. That is where I think the most cost comes in. That, and if one eats meat, because grass fed/antibiotic free etc, can be pricey.

Its def not an easy decision either way, once you start researching. Check out the vaccine page on the Healthy Parenting site. And you might want to check out our Yahoo group as well since there are many parents there who might be helpful. I have 9 year old and 5 year old boys who are not vaccinated. Look into each disease vaccinated for, its incidence, statistics and risks and compare to the risk of vaccines (and if you can know if your child will be one of the ones affected). Good luck!

My girlfriend is pregnant and we are expecting our first child in April. I'm extremely worried about vaccines, both getting and not getting them. I absolutely do not want to pump a bunch of chemicals into my child but I'm being told by everybody that they need them. Can somebody please affirm my belief that my child will be ok without vaccines and give me some alternatives? This is driving me nuts. It terrifies me as a father-to-be. Thanks.

I really like the overboard idea for bad thoughts. I'll mention that one to Connor though since he came up with the catapult, I'm sure that's his chosen one. For Owen, who is much younger we did something silly that made us laugh....like really big elephants (with really big feet) stomping on the bad germs which we decided should be eggs! :)

That's so true, Kelly! Each year they guess on which strains will hit and put 3 of them in the vaccine. Do you remember the 2005/6 season where a very aggressive strain of flu hit? Yep, it wasn't in the vax.

I keep meaning to look into a local cow sharing program! Maybe this is the kick in the pants I need. At the very least, one knows that Monsanto had little to do with the milk served in your home. A huge relief IME.

What terribly news. It's so disappointing that government--which should be for the people--continually endangers them by hopping into bed with corporations like Monsanto. Things like this reinforce the importance knowing where your food comes from and buying directly from the farmer if possible.

We get our milk through a cow share, and I know when the cows were milked last, what they eat, how they're treated and even their names. It offers some measure of security.

I am glad to read this because my friend here keeps convincing me to get a flu shot. She and her daughter get one every year. This only makes me stronger in my conviction not to get it.

From what I understand, the flu vaccines are very random and might not even be effective for whatever strain comes around that season. They make a guess at what will be coming around the year before and start producing the vaccine ahead of time. That really makes no sense to me. Not to mention, I am sure that if I were going to get the vaccine, I'd probably get sicker from that then the actual flu.

Now if only we could get the Army to stop requiring them for soldiers.
