Case of the Missing Teddy Bear or RIP

So the boys both have a Build a Bear Workshop Teddy Bear from a birthday party several years ago. Connor at 8 has decided that he’s too old for “Calvin” and Owen lately has taken to calling “Boomer” his “little brother”.  For awhile, Boomer was even sleeping with Owen.

I realized the other day that I haven’t seen Boomer around in awhile so I asked Owen about him.  He replied that “his little brother died”.  Now lately (though its finally waning) Owen has been obsessed with dying and in particular my mother who died of breast cancer when I was 23.  So I asked Owen to expand.  He told me his little brother got hit by a car.  After prying further, I get out of him that he and the little girl next door had buried Boomer in the backyard!!  Beyond our lawn is a wooded area that we let the kids dig all they want in.  So RIP Boomer.  I suppose I should dig him up and try to wash him?

Whats Happening?

Well, its been brought to my attention that I haven’t posted anything in about 2 weeks!  I honestly, didn’t realize it had been that long.  Now that Spring has shown up…we’ve been doing lots of yardwork.  We’re mulching and putting in edgers and annual flowers, hanging baskets, etc.  I’m taking a lunch break from the edgers now.

Dh is building a play/swing set for the kids in the backyard.  Its the kind where we bought the plans and all the hardware/swings and just needed to add the wood/labor (not quite like “just adding water” but you get an awesome playset for way less than buying one).

We’re also replacing all our mini blinds with those faux wood plantation blinds, hanging drapes and pictures (finally).  AND getting ready for a community yard sale happening this Saturday at 7AM (def wasn’t MY choice for a start time).  Getting rid of TONS of stuff but still can’t bring myself to get rid of all our baby and maternity clothing.  I’m really proud of my boys too as they are also “spring cleaning” and getting rid of alot of their toys, games and puzzles that they don’t play with anymore.  I suppose me telling them they could keep the money of whatever they sold was a bit of motivation..lol.  ;)

So I’m here but will be a bit sparse or until we get more of our spring projects completed. :)

Detoxifying Parental Guilt

This hit my mailbox this morning and came at a good time!  Enjoy!

THE DAILY GROOVE ~ by Scott Noelle

Detoxifying Parental Guilt

Are you plagued by guilt whenever you fall short of your parenting ideals? Such guilt may seem a natural response, but it’s not… It’s *cultural*.

Our culture conditions people to believe that their worth depends on their behavior, so that when your behavior is “wrong” you doubt your self-worth, i.e., you feel guilty. But if you knew absolutely that you *are* worthy of love and respect — *unconditionally* — you’d never feel guilty. You’d simply feel “off” whenever your behavior was out of alignment with your values.

That “off” feeling would be a welcome sign that you need to adjust your course. And with your self-worth beyond dispute, you’d be confident in your ability to get back on track.

So next time you feel parental guilt, say to yourself, “This has nothing to do with my inherent worth — that’s a given. I made a mistake, but I can learn from it. I got a little lost, but I’m finding my way.” http://dailygroove.net/parental-guilt Feel free to forward this message to your friends!

What’s in your Bottled Water?

EWG (Environmental Working Group) want to find out.  So they are starting their Bottled Water Project.  To help them out, you can submit your bottled water info (What brand? Where did you purchase it? How much did you pay? What type of container?) here;  http://www.ewg.org/issues/bottledwater/index.php

If you help them out NOW (first 1,000, I believe) you’ll get their free pesticde wallet card AND a fridge magnet!

Bisphenol A

Okay, so it seems there’s so much in the news as of late on this chemical that certain toy/baby bottle manufacturers and retail stores are petitioning to continue to use in products we expose our newborns to.  I’ll just keep adding links to this entry, this one below summarizes the current research.

Human Genes in Rice

The Organic Consumers Association has a call for comments on two dockets the USDA is considering regarding the approval of human genes in rice in Missouri.  BUT I just read that the USDA has already given preliminary approval for the planting of rice with human genes in Kansas.  Here is a link to more info;

And the Missouri information which also provides info on how to send your comments is following.

Think Walmart is Organic? Think Again!

I pondered over this entries title and almost put, “Like being Screwed Over? Shop at Walmart!”.  There are apparently Organic store tags being posted on items that are not organic.  We don’t shop there anyhow for a number of reasons (have I posted them here?) but still, many have to and it kills me that they might not catch the very misleading signs.
