If the gym teacher is absent they may get none. ALSO, the children are punished with this taken away for forgetting homework and such. It is outragous the way this country is going. While I don't have stats (is anyone keeping track), I can tell you that children here in FL have less recess than ever before due to FCAT. In fact, when I was a brand new teacher, I tried to take my 3rd graders out for recess and was told there was simply no time for it. You might assume they got PE everyday, but that wasn't the case either. They got PE either one day a week or for a full week every month. Children need to run and play--especially boys. By the way, esearch shows that children with "ADHD" experience relief from their "symptoms" when they're provided the opportunity to EXERCISE! Thanks for sharing this.
